Editorial Comment

Spring greetings, everyone! Fall greetings to our readers in Australia!
I must say that I have started to write this editorial so many times I've lost count. Each time I think I get an idea and begin the process I am interrupted by my 4-year-old, who needs help to find that one certain toy he needs right this moment to continue playing. Not one of the other million and a half toys the child owns will do.
Or by my 1½-year-old daughter, who seems to be up for an Academy Award for best dramatic actress in a family series. I have never in my life seen a child so small act so big. Her interruptions consist of scenes where she stands next to my computer banging on my keyboard, and when I try to divert her attentions elsewhere she throws up her hands, cocks her head to the side, and lets out wails of "WHY" "WHY" "WHY." She rivals the best Italian mother who's just found out her only child has decided not to marry and give her grandkids.
I well remember before I had children I had an entire office I could retreat to and just be. It was an unused bedroom, so I had plenty of space. I loved that office, because it offered me the solitude I much needed.
